Weblog Review

This blog has been reviewed by The Weblog Review today! When I submitted my blog for review awhile ago I wasn’t sure how it will be received. I would say that the review is very fair and accurate. Although how the reviewer not understanding the meaning and word play of ‘Mine Blogging’ is interesting.

Mine->My + Blogging->Blog = My Blog

or

Mine Blogging->Mind Boggling

Clever? No?

And the reviewer gives me ideas on how to improve the blog. I’ve been considering migrating my old photo site to TypePad photo album for some time and this review is a huge incentive for me to make a move on. I am also waiting for the planned photo album improvement (ability to leave comments, more templates, etc.) from TypePad before I migrate my photos.

Personally I like the dark style but since I am not very good at graphic design I am loathed to change for the sake of changing. Chances are that I will change it for the worse! Ideally, I would like to have the background in lighter shades but no bright (pun intended) idea has came to my mind yet…

All good things come to those who wait

It feels like our hard work of the last few years have finally paid off.

Hard work:

  • I moved to New York to work on my own, leaving Leah in the UK to mob up the company tax mess.
  • Leah moved back to her mum’s place and occupied the basement to save rent.
  • I worked as contractor/consultant for 3 years, with the fear of being deported if I lost my job as my Visa is tied to one employer only.
  • Leah could not stay with me in the US until we were married.
  • I worked my ass off last 18 months to build up our saving again after it was depleted by the wedding.

Rewards:

  • Our Green Card applications are near the end. Hopefully we will get a decision from INS this year.
  • I have a steady, permanent job that I know won’t disappear overnight. Even if it does, I can now go and get another job.
  • My new job gives the weekend and week nights back to me. Now I can plan ahead and socialize with my friends.
  • Leah is studying what she likes and, apparently, excels at.
  • Our saving is back to respectable level, with more tax refunds coming and share option sales from my last employer.
  • And last but not least, we are living in a country that we love. We don’t feel restricted by social behaviors, stereotyping, and bound by peer pressure. Our American friends take us for what we are, not what we were.

British Invasion

Leah and I went to see the opening gig of Omid Djalili – Comedy Invasion tonight at the Village Theatre (Omid Djalili is Whoopi Goldberg’s sidekick in the sitcom). He was so funny and 99% of his jokes are multi-culture. Unfortunately this also means that some of the American audience don’t appreciate/get the jokes at all! Oh well, as long as we found them funny…

What was that ending?

This week’s great episode of Navy: NCIS end with much confusion. This is as far as I can work out from replaying on TiVo 🙂

1. The Israeli commando was wearing a bulletproof vest.
2. He also has a accomplice who is in HRT uniform.
3. When Gibbs shot the commando , the accomplice went out to the ambulance bay and shot two HRT agents before DiNozzo shot him in turns. (May be help the terrorist escape?)
4. Somehow, the commando escaped in the general confusion. Method unknown.
5. Escape method relies on Gibbs shooting him in the chest because Gibb is trained to shot at body mass.

So if anyone know what exactly goes on, pray tell!

Nearly there, after 3 years

We’ve finally received the Notice of Action from INS to go and get our fingers printed in 3 weeks time! So we will be legal aliens very soon and nobody can kick us out of the country! About bloody time too after 3 years of waiting.
