A Fresh Start

I’ve been trying to think of something to say that many others haven’t since the Sunday’s so-called Grand Prix race. This BBC piece sums up nicely how I’ve felt thus far. One important point is that since the inception of the breakaway series I have been more or less oppose to the idea but after this Sunday’s race I think the breakaway teams and manufacturers do have a point. The new breakaway series will be gladly welcome when it starts without Max, Bernie, & co.

Update: So now the Michelin teams are being summoned to Paris by the FIA. No doubt they will be punished for ‘bringing the sport into disrepute’, an ambiguous phase favour by the FIA/Max Mosley. The teams will get off lightly if a hefty fine imposed. But more likely, their points from the last race will also be deducted to aid Ferrari’s championship hope. Let’s see if my prediction comes true.

Update 2: So the new phase is "acts prejudicial to the interests of competition or motor sport generally.". I wasn’t too far off, was I?

Uninformed Commentating

Last night I watched the recording of the Canadian Grand Prix on TiVo. It was broadcasted, not by Speed Channel as the rest of the season, but unfortunately by CBS. So instead of having three experienced Formula One commentators including Steve Matchett who was the race mechanic for Benetton during the 90’s when Michael Schumacher was at the team, CBS has Derek Daly and Ralph Shahean. These two are so uninformed it was incredible! When they found out that Montoya was black flagged due to existing a closed pit lane Derek Daly said, and I quoted, “I can’t believe they’ve closed the pit lane when the race leader is in the pit!”

Ahem, the pit lane is closed due to the Safety Car approaching. It is in the rule book and every team should know that. Not to mention there is this big red light at the end of the pit lane to warn the driver not to exist. Formula One is not like NASCAR or IndyCar where rules are bent or made up on the fly to suit the racing. Mr. Daly, please read up on F1 rules before the next broadcast or else please remain silent when in doubt.

When is Wednesday not Wednesday?

Or when is 21st Century not 21st Century? They are not what they are when information have to be dumbed down to the lowest denominator!

Apparently the Star Wars Episode III preview tickets that we have for May 18th, Wednesday 12:01 a.m. is not for tonight. It is for tomorrow night, i.e. Thursday 12:01 a.m. Why? Apparently it is because it is Wednesday evening so it is Wednesday 12:01 a.m. I would have given them the benefit of my doubt if they had used 12:00 a.m. but 12:01 a.m.?

Look at Fandango or MovieTickets.com and see for yourself.

Oh and the millennium thing? The year 2000 is still in the 20th Century. January 1st, 2001 is the first day of the 21st Century. Just like if you are born on January 1st, 0000, you are not one year old until January 1st, 0001. Or two thousands years old until January 1st, 20001. Stupid!

I am sorry? Did I lose you on my logical explanation of the concerpt of the forth dimension?

So, no Star Wars tonight due to the population inability to discern date time. I hate stupid people and the dumbing down to accommodate them. How about this for an idea? Let’s educate people so they understand simple concept as date and time?

Suspend of Disbelief

I am sure plenty of bloggers will be doing the same complaining about now, just like me, but here is my 2 cents about tonight’s 24 episode.

Spoiler below! Don’t click on the link if you have not watched tonight episode yet.

It's been a hard day's night

Good day or bad day?

My nose has been playing games with me since the end of last week. Seems to have same symptom as Adriaan has. Not sure about the cause though.

Worked eleven hours (typical hours for the last four months) today because we have to get the software out of the door by this Friday, but I was the only one developer there after 6:30 p.m. (huh???)

Got home by 8:30 p.m. and able to watch 24.

Found out my hard work wasn’t good enough for some people.

Spent the next three hours working on ecto and gotten nowhere (a case of two steps forward one and a half step backward). So tunnel-visioned into the code that I forgot to re-hydrate myself so now I have a headache.

Meanwhile some of my team members were playing Halo 2 online…

Why in hell do I even bother?
