Speaking about getting new gadget. Finally got off my ass and look for some headphones reviews on iPodlounge. I’ve settled on the Shure E3c which looks (and should sounds) pretty cool. They certainly should sound better than my current white Sony MDR-EX70SL Asian import. I think I will miss the asymmetric behind-the-head wires and shorten signal wire to use with remote control though.
iPod faux pas
Living near and working in Manhattan, the capital of white headphones (with the possible exception of San Francisco?), there are many faux pas committed by iPod users. Here are a few example:
– After spending their hard earned cash on a iPod/mini, the owners decide to use the crappy headphones that they used to use on their portable CD players. Even the Apple headphones are way better than these…
– iPod headphones are shaped so one can figure out which one is for left or right easily. Yet, many iPod owners (I’d ventured about 50%) wear their headphones the wrong way around!
– A minority of iPod mini owners hand carry their music players still inside the belt clip! Note to these owners: if you are going to show off your iPod mini, leave the belt clip on your belt or handbag!
Dido Live!
Leah and I went to Dido’s concert at the Beacon Theatre in New York. It was a tour de force of a performance with Dido delivering note perfect vocals as well as some very interesting percussions and lighting arrangements.
The concert was kicked off with a long percussion intro that reminded me of the Blue Man Group. Then it mixed into one of Dido’s song perfectly giving us, the audience, quite a surprise.
Over the course of the next hour and a half, Dido intermixed many different music styles into her otherwise mellow songs. They range from fast dance rhythms to Africa drum beats, and from Brazillian Samba beats to rock guitar ad-lib.
Absolutely great performance and I ranked her concert as one of the best I’ve been.
Music from the Meister
Leah and I were at the Lincoln Center last night attending John Williams’ performance with the New York City Philharmonic.
It was fantastic hearing the master of cinematic composing conducting his own music. The program contains a wide varieties of scores from John Williams’ collection. I was disappointed that Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Born on the Forth of July were not on the program. But the performance of the theme from Schindler’s List was excellent and we were treated with three encore performances, one of which was the Star Wars main theme!
It was, by far, the best birthday present I have had.
ER Soundtrack found!
Thanks to TiVo wishlist feature, I was able to watch the ‘On the Beach’ episode again this weekend. And I was wrong in my previous post that “Over The Rainbow” by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole was not the soundtrack I was looking for. It is and the track is in my iTunes Music Store shopping cart right now.
