Leah and I had previously agreed that we don’t need presents for each other on Valentine’s Day as we are trying to save money. But I surprised her with chocolate from La Maison du Chocolat. We have always lusted after chocolates from there when we lived in Mid-Town Manhattan. Leah once bought a small bag of assorted chocolate from them many years ago and they were good! We’ve only had three pieces each tonight and they definitely lived up to expectation!
From Windows of the World to Colors
So the surviving staff of the WTC’s Windows of the World is starting up their co-op restuarant called Colors. I had been to the Windows of the World twice but Leah has never been. I booked a table there for our anniversary on September 28, 2001 but the event on September 11 meant Leah never had the chance to enjoy the night view of the city with fantastic live music.
When Colors is opened, I think our first visit will indeed be a ‘pity’ visit but if the food is good then there is no reason not to return.
No more Ladies' Night…
What the world has came to? No more ladies’ night in pub in New Jersey!
Finding Sushi
Leah and I had just have the worst dinning experience at Sushi House @ Hoboken. First we were ignored for 20 minutes before our orders were taken. Then over 30 minutes elapsed before our food arrived and both of our orders were wrong. I accepted mine but Leah’s was completely out of wack! She replaced her order of Torikatsudon (Chicken Katsu Don) with a Veggie Combo Sushi, hoping that it would be quick to make. That took another 45 minutes before her sushi arrived and by then we had to have it to-go. By that time we had been in the restaurant for over an hour and a half! We could have watched a movie! Meanwhile, our waters were never re-filled, waiters were ignoring us, and the chief apologized to the tables on both of our sides but not us (by the way, they had much more elaborate orders and arrived on time).
And I broke tradition and paid no tips whatsoever! And after seeing what Leah’s sushi was like after we got home, I think we should have a refund.
Sushi House @ Hoboken had lost a pair of regular customers since we have sushi at least once a week. Instead, we are sticking to our favorite, Westside Sushi, on West 50th St./9 Ave in Manhattan.
Chinese New Year
Tomorrow is the Chinese New Year, the year of monkey. Being the good Chinese that I am (*cough*, *cough*) Leah and I are planning to go to Chinatown this weekend and see what kind of New Year food we can acquire. First and foremost on the list is the red sticky sweet rice cake that I love so much.
And this is the first New Year that I am married so I am no longer eligible for the red pocket money 😦 Instead tradition rules that we, now as married couple, should give out those red pocket money! At least being in the separate continent let me get away from not giving any out! Ha!
