Mystery NY Bloggers Meet Up

Leah and I want to attend this New York Bloggers event at Apple Store SoHo but what is it about? The page seems to give no clues. Is it for discussion on blogging in general? Or is it a meeting of like minded bloggers in New York? Your guess is as good as mine.

Modesty is good only in moderation

Last week Leah was doing a tidy up in the apartment when she came across my photo ‘portfolio’. She was again very impressed by my photos, even though I don’t think they are that exceptionally good. Nonetheless, Leah felt they are good enough that she requested a prospectus from the School of Visual Art in New York so I can look at their continuing education course in Photography.

Although I know that some of my photos are good and that a number of friends and family had previously told me that they are very good, I’ve never felt that I have the skills to make a living from photography. Then last week, I realised that my mindset is partially influenced by my Chinese upbringing.

Modest is a virtue that my parents have instilled in me since I can remember. Teaching such as, let your work speaks for itself, becomes integral part of my thinking that it drives my everyday actions. Only in the last few years that I can accept I can and should let people know my development skills. And that I should not just let my previous works do the speaking. With photography, I am still in the modesty mindset and it is something I need to wrap my mind around the fact that I can take good photographs.

GUI: Illustrated History

Thanks to Scott I came across this great site about the evolution of the GUI, GUIdebook: Graphical User Interface gallery.

It’s interesting how we went from the primitive to the complicated, and from the simplistic to the cartoonish within two decades!

Weblog Review

This blog has been reviewed by The Weblog Review today! When I submitted my blog for review awhile ago I wasn’t sure how it will be received. I would say that the review is very fair and accurate. Although how the reviewer not understanding the meaning and word play of ‘Mine Blogging’ is interesting.

Mine->My + Blogging->Blog = My Blog

or

Mine Blogging->Mind Boggling

Clever? No?

And the reviewer gives me ideas on how to improve the blog. I’ve been considering migrating my old photo site to TypePad photo album for some time and this review is a huge incentive for me to make a move on. I am also waiting for the planned photo album improvement (ability to leave comments, more templates, etc.) from TypePad before I migrate my photos.

Personally I like the dark style but since I am not very good at graphic design I am loathed to change for the sake of changing. Chances are that I will change it for the worse! Ideally, I would like to have the background in lighter shades but no bright (pun intended) idea has came to my mind yet…
