Embedded Journalism

Normally I don’t discuss anything politics related here. But I can’t help but have to mention this great blog by a photographer/journalist who had been embedded with the US Army in Mosul, Iraq since beginning of this year.

Go read his entries, most of them are long but well worth the time, and see the side of the story in Iraq that you won’t normally get from the mass US media.

I started reading this blog when someone in the office emailed me about a journalist who, when shot at, picked up the rifle and shot back. It was an griping post but what has kept me going back is the story of the war as seen from the ground and how much we are not told by the media. No surprise there.

Who did I piss off?

These happened in the last 24 hours:

  • Got hit in the eye by a softball during warm up. Left lens shattered and thus need replacement. Partly my fault for not wearing my contacts but also I had a lot of trouble putting contacts in the week before to I decided not to yesterday (and I was lazy).
  • Misplaced my wedding ring somewhere. I swear I left it on my office desk yesterday but it is not here now. Could have been lost in the softball field when I took off my glove after getting hit by the softball. Won’t know until I get home tonight to check the glove. I am not really holding my breath…
  • Got a spyware, for the first ever time in over 15 years, on my PC laptop and now I don’t have internet connection. Didn’t have time to fix it apart from running anti-spyware apps which found nothing.

So, do I have to sacrifice a goat or virgin or something to appease some god somewhere?

The way sugar supposed to be presented

The way sugar supposed to be presented

This Saturday Leah and I went to Babbo to celebrate our ten years anniversary. We had fantastic food there. First we had a three goat cheese truffles for anitpasti, then mint ravioli with spicy lamb sausage source for primi. After that Leah had wild strip bass for secondi while I had grilled lamb chop.

Finally at the end of the meal when the coffee came, and before our deserts arrived, the waiter left the sugar ‘box’ on our table. Instead of the regular affair where the box contains a bunch of sugar substitutes and a few packets of ‘real’ white sugar, let alone brown sugar, Babbo has it the right way round!

Just look at it! Sugar sticks, brown sugars, white sugars, and then oh, what’s that between the brown and white sugars? A few packets of sugar substitutes for those who are dieting!

Real sugar rules!
