I'll be back

So this evening Leah and I booked our flights (business class using our hard earned miles with Virgin) for our week long visit to the U.K. in January next year. Couple that with spending a long weekend in Washington D.C. in early December means that I’ve used up all of my vacation days for the year. So I guess this Christmas will probably be the first time in my working life that I have to work and not get a whole week off!

And this will be my first visit back to the U.K. in over 2 years! I am sure my parents will be more than glad to see me. But to be honest, apart from family connections there is nothing that draw me to the U.K. right now, or ever. There are nothing that I can get in the U.K. that I can get in the U.S. but cheaper, better, more choices. Especially not with the current foreign exchange rate!

Talking about Christmas, I think the new U2 iPod will make great Christmas gift for me even if I have never been a U2 fan 🙂 (Hint, hint. Although a new tennis racket will do very nicely too) I think it will be problematic on how to protect the iPod and show off the black/red exterior at the same time.

Is stylish cordless phone impossible to find in U.S.?

Back when Leah and I lived in London, we had a very stylish Samsung cordless phone that was direct desendent of a Samsung’s cellphone.

However, since I moved to the U.S. over three years ago I have not been able to find a single good looking, stylish cordless phone anywhere. Just take a look of what is available on Amazon, and compare with what we used to have.

This Siemen cordless phone is the closest I’ve found so far.

So if there are any other that are even close to the Samsung in terms of styles and functionality that are available in the U.S., let’s hear about it!

Sound and Gadget

Speaking about getting new gadget. Finally got off my ass and look for some headphones reviews on iPodlounge. I’ve settled on the Shure E3c which looks (and should sounds) pretty cool. They certainly should sound better than my current white Sony MDR-EX70SL Asian import. I think I will miss the asymmetric behind-the-head wires and shorten signal wire to use with remote control though.

iPod faux pas

Living near and working in Manhattan, the capital of white headphones (with the possible exception of San Francisco?), there are many faux pas committed by iPod users. Here are a few example:

– After spending their hard earned cash on a iPod/mini, the owners decide to use the crappy headphones that they used to use on their portable CD players. Even the Apple headphones are way better than these…

– iPod headphones are shaped so one can figure out which one is for left or right easily. Yet, many iPod owners (I’d ventured about 50%) wear their headphones the wrong way around!

– A minority of iPod mini owners hand carry their music players still inside the belt clip! Note to these owners: if you are going to show off your iPod mini, leave the belt clip on your belt or handbag!

Locked Cell Phone vs. Consumer

Finally! Someone is taking action against cell phone carriers locking their cell phones to the prespective network.
