F.B.A.

In the office, the development team are all very informed and, shall we say, like to express our opinions. Not that it is a bad thing, I like to encourage debates and lively arguments as long as it is civilized and constructive. However,
there a couple of people who sometimes would ignore the facts and would not accept that their dearly held beliefs are just plain wrong. No amount of Googling or Wikipedia would convinced them and we are talking about scientific fact here (I don't even want to go into our political debates, they are the 'third rail'). For example, covering three sides of the large fish tank with form boards will help keep the water temperature from rising/dropping through insulation. Wrong! Being a science graduate I can't stand people that ignore facts but I am also polite (sometimes) so I bite my tongue and just roll my eyes instead.

This week I have enough of their idiocy so I started mocking either of them indirectly by saying "Oh, you and your fact-based argument" (in the satirical tone of current U.S. administration's Faith-based Initiative) to the person(s) who is in the right. I am sure one of these days I would push my luck too far and have to deal with the consequence. But for now, it is funny to see how that kills their argumentative mood.

QotD: Pizza Preference

How do you eat your pizza:  folded, flat or with a fork and knife?
Submitted by danimass.

It depends on where I am eating the said pizza. If I am eating it in the office where the slide is huge (normal for New York pizza) then I eat it folded. If the pizza is normal size then I eat it flat. And if I am eating the pizza in a restaurant then I may use fork and knife, but it all depends on how everyone else are eating their pizza. When in Rome, do as Roman does.

QotD: OS Preference

Windows, Mac, Linux – What's your preference and why?
Submitted by ramblingsbymark.

I prefer Mac as a day-to-day OS/Computer. Not that Windows are bad, I use it everyday for 8+ hours for work, and Microsoft has made developing software on Windows really easy and enjoyable. Apple's Xcode is ok but it is nothing like Visual Studio or even Eclipse. But the fact remains that Windows are not secure, must require running of anti-virus/anti-spyware software in the background, requires constant vigilant to make sure it is not infected, etc. makes using a Mac so much more less stressful and enjoyable.

The last time I tried Linux was nearly 10 years ago and even with these intervening years I still think Linux has not evolved into the point where any consumers can install and use it without knowledge of *nix.

OS X is really Linux done right.
