Christmas present from U.S. Government

What a great surprise to find in the post our Green Cards from USCIS. Now we are U.S. permanent residents for real! With that little card, the threat of deportation vanishes and along comes the advantage of very short queue in airport immigration, among other things.

Trade off

If people, and by that I mean American, think that they can have both homeland security and civil liberty at the same time then they are very naive. But then American are always the ones who want the cakes and eat it too.

Age += 1

So today I am one year older and Leah bought me the best birthday present, a 20GB iPod, along with Pearl Jam’s On Two Legs (Live) CD! So my task for lunch time will be to visit my local Best Buy and get a case of some description, probably iSkin or something similar, to protect the iPod.

And this evening we are going out for a nice dinner at a French restaurant, Gascogne. I am debating perhaps I should try, for the first time, foie gras but I am definitely on the look out for snails!

Time flies!

It’s been over a year since I conceived the idea of developing a desktop blogging application. How time flies when one have fun! In 12 months, it went from just an idea in my head to some code that I tinkered with when I had some free time. From half baked ideas and codes to half working software in January when I was in between jobs. And from software with a bunch of bugs to commercial software with some bugs. And finally now to software that has largely re-written with lots of new features and more to come.

If you told me a year ago that I will be selling my own software, I would have replied that I don’t think I am skilled enough or business savvy enough to do it. I guess one don’t know until one tries! Of course living in the U.S. where having a side job seems to be the norm rather than the exception helps foster my work. I sincerely think that this enterprise won’t have a chance if I were to stay living in the U.K.
